But first things first, you may be wondering what’s the difference between a duvet and a coverlet anyways? And do you need one or both? Let us help you crack the code and master the art of top of bed.
Duvet Sets
For a smooth, sheet-like top layer, you can’t go wrong with a duvet set. The duvet set consists of a comforter and a duvet cover. Your duvet set can be layered over a quilt or blanket, folded at the foot of the bed or pulled all the way up, as an extra layer of warmth.
Duvet
The duvet itself is often referred to as a comforter. It’s the plush inner layer of the set and can come in various weights for warmth and insulation. Duvets are typically made of a down, cotton, wool, silk or synthetic material and do not need to be laundered as often as other bedding layers since it is protected by the outer duvet cover. When shopping for your duvet, we recommend that you (i) find one with corner loops that let you affix it to your duvet cover and (ii) make sure the size of the duvet perfectly matches your duvet cover to avoid it being too small or too large.
Duvet Cover
As the most visible element of the duvet set, the duvet cover elevates and embellishes your bedding. The duvet cover is an envelope-like case that protects your duvet and can be easily removed for laundering. A duvet cover is often made of smooth sheeting material and is constructed with an opening at one end to insert the duvet. Our duvets are designed with your choice of button or zipper closure, and include four corner ties to affix to your duvet. We also offer a wide variety of Egyptian cotton, Italian linen, and decorative jacquard fabrics for that perfect balance of style and comfort.
Coverlets
As a single-layer bed covering, the coverlet is a nice, lightweight alternative to heavier duvets in hot summer months. Styling with a coverlet can be an easy way to add subtle texture without introducing another color to your bedroom’s palette. At Home Treasures, the texture options of our coverlets vary from artfully sophisticated jacquards to casually relaxed cotton piqués to boldly patterned quilting. When styled on the bed, the coverlet should hang down past the box spring and can either be tucked in or left to drape down.
