Your Guide to Making a Monogram

When it comes to getting personal, there’s nothing like a monogram to make a piece truly yours. Dating back to antiquity, monograms give an emphasized level of personalization and distinction to any bed, bath and table linens. At Home Treasures, we see embroidered monograms as the ultimate personalized luxury.

The Monogram Process

From bed linens to bath towels to table napkins, you can customize the spaces in your home to say something bold and uniquely you by adding embroidered initials, names and even logos. With an in-house embroiderer, every Home Treasures customer has the option to add monograms to their custom orders. During the design phase, customers can select monogram style, thread color and placement that coordinates perfectly with their interior design.

Designing Your Monogram

Traditionally, a three letter monogram formats a person’s first initial on the left, last initial in the center, and middle initial to the right. For couples designing with their shared initials, the woman’s first initial should be placed on the left and the man’s first initial on the right with the couple’s shared last initial centered between them.

Home Treasures has over 27 different monogram styles to choose from; however, if you need something even more personal, contact our customer service to begin working on a bespoke design.

During the design process, be sure to consider the form of each letter you plan to include and see how they complement one another. Some monogram style selections lend themselves better to certain letters. For instance, you may prefer the flow and form of a letter “J” in a script style over that of a structured serif style. In other cases you may find that certain letter combinations clash in one monogram style while they harmonize beautifully in another. When working with Home Treasures to create your monogram, you can ask to see your design in multiple formats during the design phase to decide which style suits you best.

Perfect Placement

Once you have a monogram design established, it’s important to consider the placement on your linens.

Monograms in the Bedroom

For bedding, pillow shams are the perfect starting point as they sit upright on the bed and make an immediate impression when you enter the room. For bolder bedding statements, consider adding a large, centered monogram to your coordinating coverlet or duvet cover. Should you choose to monogram your pillowcases and flat sheet, we advise you keep them small and place them in areas where you are less likely to rub your face as you sleep.

Monograms for the Bath

It’s become widely popular to create consistency from bedroom to bath by incorporating the same monogram style and color in both rooms. For bath linens, placing a large centered mongoram on shower curtains makes a big statement and coordinating bath mats and hand towels can include smaller monograms to create a cohesive look.

Monograms at the Table

When setting the table, placemats and napkins are the perfect blank canvases for including your initials, names or even words of affirmation to inspire and delight your guests.
