Percale vs. Sateen
During warm weather months, high-quality Egyptian cotton bedding is our top pick for sleeping cool. When it comes to cotton sheets, there are two kinds of weaves that are most common: Percale and Sateen. While both fabrics are derived from the same material, the look, feel and performance of each varies.
A Percale is woven with a “one over, one under” weave that provides a crisp, cool feel with a matte finish. Sateen in contrast, is characterized by its “one yarn under and three (or more) yarns over” weave that creates a silky, smooth appearance. Sateen’s weaving pattern makes it drape heavier on the body than percale. While both cotton-based fabrics are ideal warm-weather fabrics for bedding, sateen’s density makes it a great choice for sleeping during transition seasons with the windows open through the night.
