How To Refresh Your Bedroom for Fall

Cuddle weather is coming and it’s time to prepare your bedroom for the cooler temperatures and change of season. Autumn can be a tactile wonderland with crunchy leaves and crisp air, so why not let your space reflect the same?

Simple additions can quickly create the ambience you’re looking for to transition from the sweltering summer season to the romance of autumn. Look to create comfort through these elements that can be introduced with ease and enjoy the changing scenery without the interruption of a cumbersome home makeover.

The design of your space should match the mood of the season

If you want to update your most cherished spaces to reflect the season, we have some simple and easy changes you can make. By introducing rich textures, deeper hues, and additional layers of warmth, you’ll be ready to take on the transition of seasons comfortably.

Tackle Textures without Fear

Go with what feels right to you! Add comfort in the form of bouclés, wool, flannel and cashmere to give your bed a refreshed fall look. For a tactile experience, our exclusive Dreamwool collection—Medici, St. Moritz and Geneva—marries comfort, texture and style with ease. For added visual texture, a duvet cover in a bouclé like our Coco or Jacqueline collections can add depth and complexity to the layers you add to your bedroom ensemble.

Level Up Your Layers

You can also introduce blankets to your bedroom and living room spaces. By layering blankets on classic bed sets, you can mimic the autumnal tones and visually change the feel of the whole room while also adding extra warmth to you night's sleep. Whether you sleep with a blanket on its own, or layered with a Duvet, we leave that choice to you!

Our cotton collections Belem and Comporta are perfect light weight additions while a wool Geneva blanket or Cashmere Brunello blanket are sure to keep you warm through fall and winter. With quality craftsmanship and the best materials possible, these timeless pieces can become a standard in your seasonal collection without overcrowding your space.

Your Bedding Materials Should Be Appropriate For The Season

As temperatures dip, your bedding should transition with the season. For practical reasons, you need to make sure you’re climbing in bed with natural fabrics that will help you stay warm and cozy all night.

Update Bedding by Mixing Layers of Light and Dense Materials

Autumn looks very different depending on the region that you live in, but one thing remains the same despite your climate–it’s a season for mixing and matching a variety of fabrics in general.

Sheets

Sateen and Percale sheets pair well with flannel to better insulate you against the cool air at night. We love Sateen sheets for the transition months as they feel a bit more cozy; some of our favorite collections are Royal Sateen and Fino. However, for those who run warmer or live in tropical climates, consider Percale sheets from our Delancey or Yves collections as a cooler alternative with a light weave .

Blankets

Choose blankets made of the best fabric for your climate. For those who are in need of something light, our Lisboa or Savannah blankets may be the right choice; while for those in colder climates, our Brunello and Serena cashmere blankets are sure to keep you warm through fall and winter. Whether you sleep with a blanket on its own, or layer it with a Duvet, we leave that choice to you!

Duvets

For a smooth top layer, you can’t go wrong with a duvet. Your duvet can be layered over a quilt or blanket, folded at the foot of the bed or pulled all the way up, as an extra layer of warmth. Many duvet covers are made of sheet-like material in smooth cotton; however, for added warmth and a little extra weight, a wool comforter may be your ticket to extra comfort. Consider St. Moritz or Medici’s signature Dreamwool fabric for your fall ensemble.

Your Cleaning and Maintenance Routine Matters

We know your bedding is an investment and properly caring for them will help maintain their fabric quality and softness for season after season.

Refine your laundry and care routine

At Home Treasures, we believe in livable luxury. With proper care, you should be able to launder your bedding at home and still expect to enjoy your linens for years (even generations) to come. Skip the bleach and fabric softeners that can damage fibers and opt for a mild detergent to prolong the life of your linens. Wash matching linens such as sheets and pillowcases together, as each piece should be cared for similarly to help maintain color consistency and brightness. You can learn more about our tips for caring for your luxury linens here.

Rotate your sheets for a longer life

Repeated washes can reduce the life of your linens. We recommend using three sets of bed linens in rotation: one on the bed, one in the wash, one in the linen closet. This will allow each set a rest from use and a rest from wash.

Store your spring and summer bedding safely

Before you store your warm weather bedding away for the coming months, remember to wash them before you pack them. This will eliminate any unwanted oils, dust or left-behind skin cells from lingering in your sheets for months. Once laundered, you can pack them safely in water-resistent bins, insect-repelling cedar chests, or space-saving vacuum-sealed bags and store them in a cool, dark, dry place such as your linen closet.
